Training

Pre- and post-doctoral candidates and psychology practicum students will be exposed to several different components of professional development

They will work with the geriatric and severe mental illness populations at three different psychiatric skilled nursing facilities with an emphasis on crisis intervention.

Our private practice component exposes students to the nature of independent work including managing fee scales and insurance.

The growing clinic also allows students to actively participate in program development such as creating and implementing services and understanding the administrative aspects of running a program.

Lastly, students will become familiar with elements of community mental health such as engaging in outreach efforts, facilitating workshops, giving student lectures, tabling, fundraising and developing relationships with community resources and providers.

Please contact our clinical supervisors, Dr. Amee Velasco and Dr. Wayne Kao for more information or to schedule a meeting to discuss training options that are available.
